Maruthi Suzuki decided to launch premium hatchback segment and the vehicle will be sold cia NEXA showrooms. On the exterior, Baleno sports punched radiator grille which is V-shaped while the side gets alloy wheels in top variants and steel rims in the base and mid variants. Mechanically, Baleno will work on 1.3-litre diesel locomotive that can produce peak torque of 200Nm and the power output of 88bhp. The premium hatch will also come with the latest SHVS technology seen in Ciaz sedan. Price of Baleno would fall somewhere around Rs 5.50 lakh. Maruti Suzuki top honchos are on record saying that the old Baleno sedan, which is now quitted, and the new car have nothing in usual.

Interior

The outside may look vividly varies from the current crop of hatchbacks from Suzuki but on the inside, the new Baleno is expected to borrow parts from the brand's parts bin. We expect to a see a associate layout for the dashboard and all the bits and pieces. However, this car will have a new instrument panel which is expected to have a rather cool looking blue-back lighting and in higher- spec models a colour display between the gauges. On the feature front, we expect a capacitive touchscreen, 2-DIN music system and drivers aids like ABS+EBD and two airbags at least. Suzuki may even offer rear AC vents for improved comfort levels at the rear.

Engine and gearbox

Globally, the new Baleno will be available with Suzuki's newly developed 1-litre BOOSTERJET direct shot petrol engine. Armed with a turbocharger, this new petrol engine will be highly fuel effective while offering a respectable amount of grunt with a claimed output of around 120bhp. Paired to it will be either a five-speed manual gearbox or an AMT on select variants.
